Is Life Really Random?

“HOW

do you define a word without concrete meaning? To each his own, the saying goes, so

WHY

push to attain an ideal state of being that no two random people will agree is

WHERE

you want to be? Faultless. Finished. Incomparable. People can never be these, and anyway,

WHEN

did creating a flawless facade become a more vital goal than learning to love the person

WHO

lives inside your skin? The outside belongs to others. Only you should decide for you –

WHAT

is perfect.”

I wonder whether life is random or is it extremely specific and precise?

 – I have different answer to this question on different days.

I met an old friend randomly because I was late by 20 mins on a particular day. Someday I’d call it random but on other day I might term it as totally controllable event as all the small events involved that led to this event were controllable. Maybe I woke up late, maybe i got stuck somewhere or maybe some other person was the reason for me being late. Our life is intertwined with the lives of others in one way or the other. From the bus driver who drives us to some place to our loved ones who shatter our hearts, their actions influence us, some more than the others, but influence us nonetheless.

A random sunset

Some years ago I used to think that everything was ruled by randomness. It is almost clear to me nowadays that there is no such thing as destiny.

But what about building a path and the consequences from the determination of our actions?

Although we can control some little things, in the end, our range of control is too little. Actions about my life won’t have an impact in another world or universe, maybe they will stop having an impact in a few years after I’m gone, and even in those situations in which I think I can control my life or my radius, sometimes I actually can: doing the work that I want to, going to a destination , not getting sick, being treated with the same respect I treat people, the quality of my internet connection while I paid the bill.
The concept of life and its engine is a tricky one!

  1. This brought me a thought on Stephen Hawking. He was pretty famous for a lot of theories but after his death there was a program conducted in his memory. And it was mentioned there that he once theorused our whole life, even could possibly be pre determined. Like a mathematical equation that sums up our life. Understanding that could solve a lot of mysteries of life was what he theorised. Reading your post and thinking about it just made me think about that! I once wrote a post about it on my blog as well! I really liked your post as well! Keep it up!

      1. Isn’t it nice and encouraging when you can actually feel yourself in anothers work and have that connection. I sometimes feel alone because my mind doesn’t look at things like everyone elses does on a lot of things. At the same time I am glad I don’t for that very thought process is what brings out the real me and my creative passion to write. Keep up the good work and best of luck to you.

        1. You’ve rightly put the thought in appropriate words. It encompasses a sense of commonality and yet retaining the individuality . Best of luck to you as well. Looking forward to more of your posts.
